Planting Details

How It Works

1. Species baseline

Each species group has a peer-reviewed average annual CO2 sequestration rate (kg CO2 per mature tree per year) based on IPCC and forestry research data.

2. Climate multiplier

Tropical climates can boost growth by 20%; boreal or arid zones reduce it. A survival rate accounts for seedling attrition in the first few years.

3. Cumulative CO2

Absorption is cumulative. The 10-year figure is roughly 10x the annual rate; equivalents use EPA averages for flights (0.255 t CO2/passenger) and passenger cars (4.6 t CO2/yr).

These are estimates for educational purposes. Actual sequestration varies with soil quality, management practices, and tree density. No data is sent to a server.
